What is a Measured Survey?
Measured surveys involve taking measurements of landscapes, sites, buildings and properties to produce accurate data that is then represented as a drawing or a model at a useable scale. Measured surveys are undertaken to an agreed level of detail, scale and accuracy appropriate to the intended use of the drawings.
An initial collection of accurate site data will provide the core information on which all subsequent phases of planning, design and development are based.
Outputs may include 2D CAD drawings, floor plans, elevations, sections, topographical plans and, where required, 3D building models, topographical plans, floor plans, sections and elevations or to 3D spatial information.
The systematic measurement processes involved in measured surveys will include the use of sophisticated survey equipment.
We will employ the best methods of data capture to aim and provide data of an agreed accuracy and level of detail suitable for the intended purpose.
Measured survey & drawings can be required for the following, but not limited to:
-
Planning application & Building Control applications
-
Internal refurbishment, redevelopment, alterations, or structural changes
-
Sale, acquisition, letting or land registry
-
Facilities or asset management
-
Interior design layout
-
Modelling, visualisation
-
Fire-related drawings and plans prepared to support specialist consultants where required
-
Rights of light, party wall issues
Our Approach
As independent Chartered Building Surveyors, our focus is on diagnosis — not the sale of remedial works. We provide:
-
Defining Scope: Agreeing on the level of detail, accuracy tolerances, and, if necessary, using IPMS: All Buildings.
-
Data Processing & Modelling: Using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD and Revit to prepare accurate digital drawings and, where required, 3D models.
-
Accuracy and Quality Assurance: Implementing quality assurance procedures, including verification measurements and cross-checking against site conditions.
-
Deliverables: Final outputs, such as plans, elevations, and sections, are delivered in standard formats (e.g., DWG, PDF) to a defined level of detail.
